Time Warps & Troublemaker Status
So… it’s been a minute since you’ve had a real post from me.
Not that I don’t LOVE my new personal assistant. But I’m old-school enough to still want to type things out myself.
The last time we really checked in, I was about to have brain surgery. And wow… what a time that was.
Twelve hours under anesthesia. Ten hours of actual brain surgery. Talk about a strange time warp. I’ve got a solid 36 hours that I have zero recollection of—and another 48 that are pretty hit or miss.
And now, I’m almost 14 days out from surgery.
That sounds like a lot longer than it actually feels.
I’m still (UUUGGGHHH!!) in a rehab center, working on regaining strength and coordination on my left side. Things are improving every day, which I’m incredibly grateful for—but it’s definitely starting to feel a little like Groundhog Day.
There are some amazing people helping me here… and some not-so-amazing food. What I wouldn’t give for a night in my own bed—and full access to my wardrobe. (You’d be shocked how many things look just similar enough that the wrong thing keeps getting brought to me.)
Apparently, I’ve also been labeled a “troublemaker.”
I consider that a badge of honor.
There was even an “incident report” filed thanks to me trying to speed things up to where I think I should be. Lesson learned… I guess.
Also, I’m now receiving targeted ads for a Balance and Fall Prevention Workshop, which feels a little rude.
I fully anticipated being deep in my “what should I watch/read/play next?” era by now. This is not exactly how my OCD, control-freak brain had planned recovery.
But I am learning to go with the flow.
And I’m learning to appreciate the really small things—like walking across a room without assistance.
And especially the people.
This has put a lot on Brian, and he’s been incredible (even if he still can’t tell my black joggers from my black leggings). Meredith deserves an award too—she’s been here almost every day, always finding ways to make me feel more at home or more like myself.
My mom and sister were able to get back to their lives for a bit while I’ve been locked up here, but I’m really looking forward to getting them back and actually spending time together.
As of now, it sounds like Monday might be my last day here. I’ll keep you posted on my great escape.
Screens are getting a little easier for me now too, so I’ll be better about keeping up with this—and I’ll try to be better about responding to texts as well.
Until next time, hope you all have a lovely Easter weekend!!
